Disbelief Disqualifies Witness

Ever feel like you’re missing out on something amazing? Well, in Mark 5:40-43, we see a perfect example of how disbelief can literally shut us out of witnessing God’s incredible power.

Picture this…

Jesus arrives at the house of Jairus, whose daughter has just died. The scene is chaotic – people are wailing and weeping loudly (with some paid mourners too, who definitely gave a show). Jesus, however, comes on to the scene and calmly states that the girl isn’t dead, just sleeping. And how do the mourners react? They laugh at him. Big mistake.

Jesus, not one to waste time on skeptics, puts all the doubters outside, and takes only the girl’s parents and his disciples into the room where the child lay. And guess what? Those who believed got to witness an incredible miracle – Jesus bringing the girl back to life!

The Lesson for Us

So, what can we learn from this? Simple: our attitude matters. When we approach God with skepticism and ridicule, we might just be closing the door on witnessing His amazing work in our lives.

Here’s the deal:

  • Faith opens doors: Those who believed in Jesus’ power got to see the miracle firsthand.
  • Doubt shuts us out: The scoffers missed out on seeing the impossible become possible.
  • God rewards trust: Jesus specifically allowed those who trusted Him to witness His power.

Let’s face it, sometimes God’s promises can seem pretty out there. But remember, He’s God – “out there” is kind of His specialty. So next time you’re tempted to scoff at God’s word, pause and consider: how He has sustained you this far, how His promises are true, and His unchanging nature. Don’t allow the noise of reality and your present circumstance deprive you from experiencing God’s wonder-working power!

Trust God, hold Him to His word, believing that He is faithful and true to fulfill His Word!
