I was headed to the gym this evening little did I know, my path was about to take an unexpected turn. As I drove down the freeway, I saw a man walking on the shoulder – not unusual, except for the fact that he was carrying a fuel container.
I felt a tug to pull over and offer him help. Turns out, Maxim, the man walking, is from Ukraine and had recently moved to the US. Like me, he had also lived in Poland for a while! A pleasant surprise, and a perfect opportunity to practice my rusty Polish.
Turns out, Maxim’s truck decided to play dead right on the highway. Sure, offering a ride meant a detour for me; the tollbooth was definitely not on my way to the gym. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a chance to connect with someone new, someone who might need more than just a ride.
We talked about our shared experiences in Poland, our families, and his gratitude for the unexpected assistance. And during our conversation, I felt compelled to share my faith with him. It was a brief exchange, but one that could potentially plant a seed.
Maxim’s situation might seem like an inconvenience, but it turned into a beautiful reminder. God often works in unexpected ways, leading us down paths that seem out of the ordinary. This detour allowed me to connect with someone in need, to offer a helping hand, and maybe even a touch of hope.
So the next time you encounter what seems like an inconvenience, remember – it might just be a divine detour leading you to a beautiful moment of connection. Trust that God might just be using us to touch someone’s heart!
