A Journey to the Desert: Discovering tranquility in Jordan

For a considerable period, I had been contemplating the idea of leaving the bustling metropolis I had called home for the past six years in favor of a quieter, more tranquil location. It seemed that city life had peaked in terms of the value it could offer me. It felt as though I had hit a ceiling, failing to establish many meaningful relationships or seize opportunities to create value in both personal and business connections, especially given my passion for and involvement in innovation. The city had become a place of more distractions than avenues for personal growth and spiritual connection.

In my heart, I knew it was time for a change, a decision I had been wrestling with for quite some time. Finally, I took the plunge recently, and I have no regrets about that choice whatsoever. If anything, the new location and the friendships I made with people who were already living in the smaller town I relocated to only reaffirmed the wisdom of my decision.

This move did remind me of earlier this year when, having felt the need to slow down, catch a breather and refocus my priorities, I had a trip to Jordan. The experience was nothing short of incredible. In the heart of the desert, I discovered a profound serenity, far removed from the clutches of modern distractions – the. It was a journey where I had only myself and the vast expanse of the desert, where I walked, explored, conversed, and reflected with God. It was a unique opportunity to immerse myself in the very environment that likely inspired countless biblical narratives.

The desert has a mystical quality that can be profoundly nourishing, as exemplified by the biblical accounts of Jesus’ 40-day fast (Luke 4:1-14) or Moses’ contemplative sojourn following his escape from Egypt (Acts 7:23;30). In the peaceful solitude of the desert, one can attune themselves to the gentle, soothing whispers of the divine.

Jordan’s Independence day – 25.05.23

Whether your desert is the quiet solitude of your backyard, a peaceful stroll through a nearby park, or an adventure to a place like Petra, Jordan, I encourage you to embrace the serenity of the desert and switch off all the other noise that clutters your life. It’s in these moments of stillness that you can truly hear the whispers of the divine (God), offering guidance, solace, and profound insights into the essence of life itself.

Side note – I used to think that God speaks in a loud and thunderous voice. I mean He definitely can, but from I’ve noticed it’s more often a still small voice. Who knew the Creator of the universe had such a penchant for ASMR? 🤷‍♂️
